Cats Can't Taste Sweetness Did you know that cats are unable to taste sweetness? It's true! While humans and some animals have taste receptors that can detect sweetness, cats are not among them. Rabbits Can't Vomit Like cats, rabbits also have some limitations when it comes to their digestive systems. Unlike dogs or humans, rabbits are physically incapable of vomiting. This means that if a rabbit eats something it shouldn't, such as a toxic plant, its only chance of expelling the harmful substance is through defecation. 3. Guinea Pigs Can't Produce Vitamin C Most animals, including humans, are able to produce their own vitamin C. However, guinea pigs are one of the few exceptions. They rely entirely on their diet to get this essential vitamin. This means that guinea pig food should always contain a good source of vitamin C, or supplements should be added to their diet. 4. Dogs Can Smell Illness Dogs have an incredibly keen sense of smell, and they are often used in emergency situations to locate missing persons or detect illegal drugs. However, did you know that dogs can also sniff out illness? There have been a few cases where dogs have detected cancer in their owners, simply by repeatedly sniffing or licking a specific area of their body. 5. Ferrets Can Contract Human Flu Ferrets are often kept as pets because of their playful nature and lively personalities. However, they are also susceptible to many of the same illnesses that humans are, including the flu. In fact, ferrets are often used in research studies to develop flu vaccines, as their bodies respond to the virus in very similar ways to humans. 6. Birds Can Recognize Themselves in the Mirror Although birds have fairly small brains compared to other animals, they have demonstrated an impressive level of self-awareness. Researchers have discovered that some birds, such as magpies and parrots, are able to recognize themselves in the mirror. This suggests that these birds have a sort of self-awareness that was previously only thought to exist in primates.
